Protect Yourself From Radon
Posted on Feb 1st, 2024

Are you aware of radon levels in your home? January is Radon Awareness Month, and you can take steps to ensure you’re protected. Radon, an odorless, colorless and tasteless gas, is produced by the decay of natural radioactive materials in the soil.
As described by the Kansas State Research and Extension office in Johnson County, radon can seep into homes and other buildings through joints or cracks in the foundation. It has been found above recommended levels in as many as one in four homes in Kansas. View radon levels by ZIP code in Johnson County.
Do-It-Yourself radon kits are available at the Johnson County K-State Research and Extension Office, 11811 S. Sunset Drive, Suite 1500, in Olathe. The kits cost $15 to cover the kit materials, lab fee and postage associated with the process. More information is available on the K-State Research and Extension website.
Additional information on how to protect yourself and your family from radon is available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
